Lavender Fields Luxury Cottage

Lavender Fields Luxury Cottage, Oakbank, Adelaide Hills, South Australia

The Lavender Fields Luxury Cottage is something unforgettably special. When I arrived by car and passed through the gates, I was immediately in awe of the overwhelming beauty that lay before us; I was in paradise - the most stunning landscaped gardens you could ever imagine. With manicured green grassy lawns, beautiful large trees, gorgeous borders of lavender, and a picturesque pond with a quaint stone bridge, I momentarily believed that I’d taken a wrong turn and had driven into the Mount Lofty Botanical Gardens – because this is how picturesque and extensive the Lavender Fields gardens truly are.

And this was just my first impression - or introduction if you will - as my family and I made our way in the car along the extensive driveway. We hadn’t yet set eyes on the Lavender Fields Luxury Cottage by this point.

I couldn’t take my eyes off the beauty of the gardens; it was only at the last moment that I’d realised we had arrived at the holiday house, which is a fully restored stone cottage from a bygone era. It looked so quaint and charming from the outside. What we hadn’t anticipated, was the magnificent luxury and comfort that awaited us within.

The cottage has every indulgence for two couples: king & queen bedrooms, two luxury bathrooms, double showers and vanity, a two-person spa, under-floor heating, coffee machine, dishwasher and the impressive Bose Entertainment System, which was gently playing music when we arrived.

Stone fireplace perfect for the cooler months

We were there near Christmas so it was a warmer time of year, but I noticed that the fireplace was laid with kindling all ready to be lit for those staying in the cooler months. The cottage was stylishly decorated in the French country cottage look; very charming yet with all the modern amenities; it is a wonderful blend of both old and new. Every room is perfect and every window has an amazing view. I felt so relaxed and at ease here. It is also primely located near all the Hills attractions including Oakbank, Woodside and Hahndorf, which are all culturally and historically significant. Just a 5 minute drive away is Melbas Chocolate Factory, which is a convenient source of something sweet during your stay. Then there are the famous wineries nearby including Nepenthe and Shaw + Smith which you can experience during your Adelaide Hills holiday.

In the fridge, a beautiful basket of “goodies” awaited us, and included fresh produce like tomatoes, eggs, cheese and butter. There was also a basket of fresh fruit for us to indulge in during our stay. A new experience for me was the delicious lavender butter they provided. It was surprisingly delicious and subtle. For the less daring, they also provide regular tasty butter for your indulgence. The owners of this accommodation, The Adelaide Hills Country Cottages, thought of everything - with hidden comforts around every corner. They even include a bottle of Port with a cute hand-tied bag of chocolates in the living room cabinet, which we discovered on our first night there. In the lavender theme, the cottage also provides lavender shampoo, conditioner and body wash, which gets you in the spirit of the luxury lavender fields experience.

Rows of lavender surround the quaint and charming cottage

Being the fitness fanatic that I am, I took an early morning run each day throughout the glorious Lavender Fields gardens, and was treated to a display of nature including ducks landing in the pond; rabbits hopping along the grass and rosellas perched happily in the trees.

The house also has a huge BBQ, which is wonderful in the warmer months as you cook and dine in the courtyard area behind the house. And if all this isn’t enough, it also has its own lemon orchard and a walking track that takes you on a scenic walk through the area and to the various other Adelaide Hills Country Cottages.
